Alaska Reads at Home Rack Cards

A printable tool for sharing evidence-based reading strategies with families

The Need

Families and communities are our students’ first and forever teachers.

Most students need consistent practice to develop strong literacy skills — but it can feel overwhelming to families who are trying to decode what skills in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, or comprehension really mean. Families need evidence-based resources with activities and practices that blend seamlessly into their daily routines.

The Resource

Three Alaska Reads at Home rack cards are available for schools to download, print, and share with families. Each rack card includes 7–10 developmentally appropriate strategies and activities families can implement at home to develop both written and oral literacy skills. Print the rack cards that fit the populations you serve best (ages in parentheses).
