Revising Materials to support meaningful Consultation in Oregon

Lessons learned from Oregon’s revised Tribal Consultation Toolkit

The Need

Tribal consultation creates the conditions for thriving communities — but how do agencies create resources that support meaningful consultation?

State education agencies (SEAs) have the opportunity to develop resources that support government-to-government consultation between local education agencies and the Tribes in their state. SEAs who are just beginning the process of resource development can learn from the insights and expertise of partners and Native education leaders at other SEAs.

The Resource

Revising Materials to Support Meaningful Consultation in Oregon distills three key recommendations for agencies planning to develop Tribal consultation materials:

  • Lead with Native voices
  • Center educational sovereignty
  • Build shared understanding
