Tribal History/Shared History Exemplary Practices

Resources for teachers and professional development providers

The Need

Tribal History/Shared History is Oregon’s required K–12 Tribal curriculum.

Tribal History/Shared History is developed in partnership between the Office of Indian Education at the Oregon Department of Education and Oregon’s nine federally recognized Tribes. Many districts have started implementation of Tribal History/Shared History — but not all districts have implemented the curriculum with fidelity. Region 16 has helped conduct research around Tribal History/Shared History implementation to identify barriers to implementation and exemplary practices statewide.

The Resource

Two Tribal History/Shared History exemplary practice guides have been developed to support educators and professional development providers. Both guides are based on listening, interviews, and surveys with educators and practicioners throughout Oregon.
